Coroplast Global | News | 09 Dec 2021 The Coroplast Group promotes the future topic of circular economy

For a raw material- and energy-intensive industrial company like the Coroplast Group, the circular economy plays a central role as a production model. That is why it is also an integral part of our Coroplast Group Sustainability Initiative (CSI). We want to make an active contribution to advancing this topic of the future regionally, nationally and internationally. Therefore, it was only logical for us to become involved in the Circular Valley association as a founding member.
Location with charisma: The gas tower in Wuppertal Heckinghausen is the venue and visible sign for the Circular Valley project.

The guiding idea of Circular Valley

The still predominantly linear economy causes major environmental problems with its material and product waste. In order to change this, the association "WuppertalBewegung" has established the foundation "Circular Valley®". It regards itself as a place where influential corporations, established companies and science come together with resourceful startups from all over the world to jointly develop ideas and solutions for an efficient circular economy. This creates a dynamic network that makes the industrial and scientific location of Wuppertal an engine for globally relevant future technologies.

Premiere: The first 15 startups presented their concepts at Circular Valley's Demo Day at the gas tower in Wuppertal. Twice a year, founders, tinkerers and inventors from all over the world can apply here for a four-month mentoring program. The participants are also part of Circular Valley's large, constantly growing alumni network.

Circular Valley will be to the circular economy what Silicon Valley is to the digital economy. We are starting this journey regionally, but in times of global supply chains and raw material management, the project must ultimately be thought of internationally.

From Wuppertal into the world

The Coroplast Group is a family-owned company with its roots in Wuppertal, Germany, that is socially committed and globally active. We are consistently driving forward our sustainability strategy through concrete measures. We are convinced: Promoting the circular economy is of worldwide importance and our home country is an ideal starting point for doing so. This is because we have strong local support from globally successful companies, politicians and the general public. The scientific institutions are excellent and the long industrial tradition in Wuppertal has always combined economic action with social responsibility. Last but not least, the surrounding Rhine-Ruhr region, as the largest metropolitan region in Europe, offers the Circular Valley project the best conditions for growth.

Intensive exchange: As a foundation member, we participate in defining the development focus of the mentoring programs and selecting the startups. In doing so, we would like to expand our network, promote startups and collaborate with them. As a result, we hope to gain many valuable impulses for aligning products and processes in a sustainable way. All global locations of the Coroplast Group will be involved in this project.
