Coroplast Global | News | 22 May 2025 Ready for new industries – high-voltage cables receive certifications

Coroflex has successfully achieved two important certifications in the field of high-voltage cables. These certifications show that we not only meet requirements, we set standards – now also for customers from previously unsupplied sectors.

The UL 758 certificate and DNV approval LV216

Firstly, our unshielded cables have passed UL 758 certification – a significant step forward to strengthen our position in the North American market. Secondly, our shielded and unshielded cables have received DNV approval for maritime applications – a milestone for our expanding our business in the field of e-mobility at sea.

What does UL 758 mean for us and our customers?

UL 758 certification, also known as “Appliance Wiring Material (AWM)”, is essential in North America for the approval of wiring materials in electrical appliances. It ensures that products meet strict requirements in terms of safety, quality, and performance. Our cables have successfully passed tests for

  • temperature resistance,
  • voltage resistance,
  • flame resistance, and
  • mechanical stress, among other criteria.

They thus meet the technical and legal requirements for use in demanding electrical systems in the USA and Canada. Customers in these markets can therefore rely on the conformity and reliability of our products.

New markets thanks to DNV approval in the maritime sector

We have also made significant progress in the maritime sector with DNV approval. Certification to the LV216 standard, awarded by the Norwegian classification society DNV, officially confirms the suitability of our cables for safety-critical applications at sea. Specifically, this approval applies to our shielded and unshielded cables. To comply with the certification requirements, the unshielded cables are reinforced with protective wire harness tapes supplied by our Coroplast Tape business unit.

The cables can now be used in the following areas and applications, among others:

  • Hybrid and fully electric propulsion systems for ships and yachts
  • Fuel cells and batteries
  • Power supply systems on board cargo ships and offshore platforms
  • Charging systems for electric boats
  • Cabling for auxiliary equipment such as air conditioning and cooling systems

Our cables are designed to withstand the extreme conditions at sea and ensure safe energy and data transmission.

Concrete project successes with renowned partners

Our certified cables are already being used by innovative shipbuilders, as well as by a manufacturer of technical devices. This collaboration reinforces our competitiveness in the rapidly growing field of electric drive systems for maritime applications.

These successes are part of our long-term strategy of expanding into new markets alongside our core business in the automotive industry. The New Strategic Business (NSB) division plays a central role in this. By focusing on forward-looking e-mobility with maritime vessels, commercial vehicles, and construction machinery, we are strengthening our market position and can supply additional customers with our extensive product portfolio.
